How the Quantum Draw & Codex Work

Every five minutes, the server requests 8 fresh uint8 integers (0–255) from the Australian National University quantum random-number lab in Canberra, which measures quantum vacuum fluctuations in real time. If the lab is rate-limited or unreachable, the desk skips the draw rather than falling back to a pseudo-random generator.

State-machine equations · entropy/path.py

  1. Bit Slicing (256 distinct base cards): Each byte b ∈ [0, 255] is split into its high 3 bits base_house = b >> 5 (0..7) and low 5 bits card = b & 31 (0..31).
  2. Path Phase Redirection: Step 0 starts at phase = 0, bearing = 0. At step s, the active house is redirected by earlier bytes: house_index = (base_house + phase) % 8. Changing a single earlier byte alters the phase and redirects downstream steps into different houses.
  3. Bearing & Next Phase: The running trajectory updates via bearing = (bearing + b * (phase + 1)) % 256 and phase = (phase + (b & 7) + 1) % 8.
  4. Facet Lookup: From (house_index, card), the Codex deterministically selects a Figure (card % 8), Gesture ((card // 4) % 8), Question (card % 8), Offer ((house_index * 3 + card) % 16), Relation ((house_index + card) % 16), Material (card % 16), Constraint ((card // 4) % 8), Hour (card % 8), and Weather ((house_index + card // 4) % 8).
  5. AI Reasoning Synthesis: A local reasoning model (localmoe · Qwen3-30B or localchat · Qwen3-14B) performs a chain-of-thought pass over the 8-step matrix and the active story chapter — weighing Tyler’s dilemma over Brayden’s $100, the $50 sent to Jo, and the remaining $50 — to produce a structured signal analysis, fictional reading, and documentary video prompt.

◇ HARD LINE: The Codex is a transparent creative and philosophical instrument — not a prediction engine, not financial or betting advice, and not proof that quantum physics ordains real-world outcomes.

Story Chapters & Resonant Houses

Each draw advances one chapter along the 17-beat chronicle. When the quantum walk lands on a chapter’s resonant houses or offers, the desk records a path affinity note.
